Westfield High School Principal Mary Asfendis announced the second marking period honor roll for the 2020-2021 school year. Westfield High School recognizes student achievement every marking period at two levels: Honor Roll and Distinguished Honor Roll.
More than 30 students, staff, and community members gathered on March 25 for Westfield High School’s No Place for Hate community book-read discussion. The participants met via video chat to talk about Kekla Magoon’s novel. How It Went Down, which tells the story of a community responding to the shooting of an African-American teenager by a white man. The discussion addressed themes such as identity, perspective, and stereotypes, as well as the ways in which this book from 2014 remains relevant today.

As part of a Historical Fiction unit, 5th graders in Westfield Public Schools read "Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry, a historical fiction novel that follows a friendship between a Jewish girl and a Christian girl in Copenhagen and their journey to freedom during World War II. Recent virtual presentations on the Holocaust provided students with important real-life context to these classroom experiences.
WHS seniors who attended Lincoln School's inaugural kindergarten classes in 2008-09 recently gathered outside of WHS for a special commemorative photo session.
Wednesday, April 14 is the deadline to submit nominations for the 2021 Charles Philhower Fellowship Award. The award was established in 1993 by the Rotary Club of Westfield to recognize an outstanding full-time elementary teacher in the Westfield Public Schools and to honor the late Westfield Rotarian and former School Superintendent Charles Philhower.
