Eighteen Westfield High School student musicians have been selected to perform with the Central Jersey Music Educators Association (CJMEA) Region II orchestra and chorus, after rigorous auditions that included the top musical talent from high schools in Hunterdon, Monmouth, Mercer, Somerset, Middlesex and Union counties.
Senior Kevin Li (violin), sophomore Kelly Eagan (bass) and freshman Amy Xiao (violin) will perform with the CJMEA Region II Orchestra at a concert on January 6, 2019.
“Their hard work was apparent and they represented the WHS music department well [at the auditions],” says WHS Orchestra Director Craig Stanton.
Selected to perform with the CJMEA Region II Chorus are the following student vocalists:
- Seniors Charlotte Geary, Joseph Maldonado who scored 1st in the Tenor 2 Section, and Matthew Siroty who scored 1st in the Tenor 1 Section and tied for the highest score overall.
- Juniors Daniel Andrade, Roselyne Garabete, Vincent Mora and Rachel Seiden who scored 4th in the Alto 2 Section.
- Sophomores Russell Cohen, Sam Horvath, Zaria Katz, Matthew Meixner who scored 4th in the Tenor 1 Section, and Aishik Palit.
- Freshmen Anna D’Angelo, Kayla Louison, and Joshua Madera who scored 2nd in the Tenor 2 Section.
“Out of the hundreds who auditioned from Central Jersey, Westfield had 15 students accepted. These students worked hard to prepare an audition consisting of scales, solo, and quintet,” says WHS Choral Director John Brzozowki. “These talented singers will perform at Monroe High School on January 27.”
