Le Grand Concours

A total of 45 Westfield High School students took part in Le Grand Concours this year, 36 of them earning accolades for their achievement in the form of one platinum medal, six gold medals, thirteen silver medals, nine bronze medals and seven honorable mentions. “Bravo to all of the students who participated,” say WHS French teachers Méri Beliveau, Marie-Laure Hoffmann, and Rachel Janus.

Westfield High School senior Austin Chen is a 2019 National Merit Scholarship winner. Austin was among 2,500 students selected from approximately 15,000 finalists across the United States to receive a national achievement scholarship of $2,500. Congratulations to Austin on this prestigious accomplishment.

Three teachers and one custodian have been honored by the Westfield High School community with awards of excellence. Interim Principal James DeSarno announced the award winners on May 9, who were nominated by students, staff and parents at the school.

Promoting Healthy Choices

Westfield High School senior Jaimie DeDea was named “Union County Municipal Alliance Volunteer of the Year” at the Local Advisory Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (LACADA) annual volunteer recognition dinner in Union on May 7.

Recording a Disney Musical Score

Fifteen members of the Westfield High School orchestra traveled to Disney World in Orlando over spring break to participate in a unique workshop that culminated in a polished recording in a professional studio, as the WHS ensemble performed special Disney music selections, accompanied by footage from a classic Disney film.
