WHS Teen to Co-Facilitate Statewide Listening Session

On Saturday, February 6, Westfield High School 12th grader Mira Mehta will co-facilitate a virtual statewide youth listening session as part of an “Are You INFOrmed?” outreach campaign by the New Jersey Civic Information Consortium.

Palooza Finalists Announced!

The Westfield Municipal Alliance and the Westfield High School Dream Team recognized student finalists in the the 8th Annual Palooza Contest on January 27.

Congratulations to NHS 2020 Inductees!

With in-person ceremonies sidelined due to COVID-19, 163 Westfield High School 12th graders who were inducted last spring as juniors into the National Honor Society, received their NHS certificates, pins, charms, and gold tassels from NHS advisor Scott Rutherford last month.

Perfect Scores

Seven Westfield High School students earned perfect scores of 800 on subject area tests of the November 7, 2020 SAT.

MP1 Honor Roll

Westfield High School Principal Mary Asfendis announced the first marking period honor roll for the 2020-2021 school year.  Westfield High School recognizes student achievement every marking period at two levels: Honor Roll and Distinguished Honor Roll.

BOE Welcomes New Members

At its reorganization meeting on Jan. 5, 2021, the Westfield Board of Education welcomed new members Sahar Aziz, Leila Morrelli, and Sonal Patel, who were sworn in by Board Attorney Richard Kaplow before the virtual meeting.

Giving Back in Times of COVID

Whether creating holiday cards for senior care facilities, conducting food drives and collecting warm clothing for families in need, or donating masks and cleaning wipes to school staff, the Westfield Public Schools community continues its tradition of giving, despite challenges presented by COVID-19.

Students Celebrate Teachers through Poetry, Essays, and Art

Whether teaching life lessons using quotes of famous people, spreading Math cheer, encouraging creative writing, or being a good listener, teachers in Westfield Public Schools were lauded by their students who used poetry, essays, song, and art to thank the educators during this time of COVID.

Paying a Virtual Visit to a Sea Turtle Hospital

Westfield High School 11th and 12th graders in Jennifer Sirman’s environmental science class made a recent virtual field trip to a sea turtle hospital in Florida as part of a classroom ecology unit. Students were given a virtual tour, meeting “Galapagos,” “Justice Ginsberg,” and other rehabilitating sea turtles named, by hospital staff, after places and people in history.
