Holocaust Survivors Share Their Stories

As part of a Historical Fiction unit, 5th graders in Westfield Public Schools read "Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry, a historical fiction novel that follows a friendship between a Jewish girl and a Christian girl in Copenhagen and their journey to freedom during World War II. Recent virtual presentations on the Holocaust provided students with important real-life context to these classroom experiences.

Special Class of 2021 Commemoration

WHS seniors who attended Lincoln School's inaugural kindergarten classes in 2008-09 recently gathered outside of WHS for a special commemorative photo session.

Three WHS Band Students to Perform in State Virtual Ensemble

Three Westfield High School students will perform in the New Jersey State Solo and Ensemble Festival in April, an inaugural virtual event launched by Arts Ed NJ for the 2020/2021 school year to recognize student achievement in music education across the state.

Superintendent Search

The Westfield Board of Education has hired a consulting firm to conduct the search for a new superintendent. Community members and district staff are encouraged to complete a short survey to provide input as to the educational characteristics, leadership style, and values that are important for the position. No STEM Camp in Summer 2021

Since the summer of 2012, students and staff have looked forward to attending STEM Camp. Unfortunately, due to the health and safety concerns relating to COVID-19, the district will not be offering the camp this summer. The district has discussed alternatives such as a virtual camp but remote STEM Camp would not come close to the experiences we have provided over the years. We look forward to when we can offer our popular in-person STEM Camp in the future.

National Merit Finalists

Westfield High School seniors Grace Endy, Samantha Salz, and Maxwell Scialabba have advanced as finalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. Additionally, Endy joins WHS seniors Mira Mehta and Kailey Zhao as candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

Virtual Enrichment

Students, teachers, and school club advisors are finding clever virtual ways to weave the curriculum into enrichment opportunities. Read on about virtual cooking classes and field trips by the WHS Spanish Club and a WHS Humanities class.

WHS Model UN Honors

Westfield High School’s Model United Nations Club won the Outstanding Delegation Award for excelling in all parts of the annual conference of the YMCA Model UN Program, which was held virtually this year during the first week of January. Approximately 100 Westfield students participated, with many holding leadership positions and receiving recognition.
